No film series has captivated the 21st century (over a period of 11 years) more than J.K Rowling’s, Harry Potter. In both books and films this story about a young wizard has entertained audiences around the globe, of all ages. So, when “Cinema Sounds” did a show on the Top 15 Movie Scores of the 21st Century, of course, the work of four composers, John Williams, Patrick Doyle, Nicholas Hooper and Alexandre Desplat was at the top of the list with Willams’ “Hedwig's Theme”, which is heard on all eight films.
Actually, according to “Classic FM”, the Harry Potter series ranks third on their list. But, it’s tops on my list!
During this special edition of “Cinema Sounds” we also featured the music of other top 21st Century films such as:
“Raquiem for a Dream” (Clint Mansell, 2000)
“Gladiator” (Hans Ziimmer, 2000)
“Lord of the Rings” (Howard Shore, 2001-2003)
“The Hours” (Philip Glass, 2002)
“Pirates of the Caribbean” (Klaus Badelt and Hans Zimmer, 2003-2017)
“Atonement” (Dario Marianelli, 2007)
“There Will Be Blood” (Jonny Greenwood, 2007)
“Up” - (Michael Giacchino, 2009)
“Under the Skin” (Mica Levi, 2013)
“Interstellar” (Hans Zimmer, 2014)
“The Hateful Eight” (Ennio Morriicone, 2015)
“Black Panther” (Ludwig Goransson and Kendrick Lamar, 2018).
“Joker” (Hildur Guonadottir, 2019)
“Soul” (Jon Batiste, Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor, 2020)
You’ll notice that the amazing Hans Zimmer composed scores for at least three films on this list!
We invite you to sit back, relax and take a listen to this week’s “Cinema Sounds,” show which features some amazing musical scores of the 21st century! And, let us know what you think @ cinemasoundsradio@gmail.com !
